Biography:
Professor Avishai Mandelbaum received his Ph.D. in Operations Research and Mathematics from Cornell University in 1983. Prior to joining the Faculty, during 1983-1991, he was a professor at Stanford University, Graduate School of Business. His research, which has enjoyed various prizes, covers stochastic models (analysis, asymptotics, control) and statistics, with applications to queueing theory/science and service systems (e.g. tele-services, hospitals). Until his retirement, Prof. Mandelbaum held the Benjamin & Florence Free chair in Operations Research, Statistics and Service Engineering. He is a fellow of INFORMS and MSOM. He is the co-founder and director of the Technion SEE Laboratory at the Faculty. As Dean of the Faculty, during 2014–2017, he led the creation of its programs in Data Science and Engineering.
