Integrated Risk Management: Operational measures, Financial Measures, and Their Interplay
Abstract:
The trend of globalization has put virtually every company in the massive, complex global trade network. Along with the great opportunities of cost reduction, access to labor/talent pools, capitals, and markets, the interconnection and increasing supply chain scope also presents new challenges beyond the typical supply chain concern of demand and supply uncertainties. Companies that were traditionally local or national oriented are now affected by the world commodity price shocks, currency fluctuations, and trade policy and law changes in other countries. Conversely, glitches at a supplier in one country may cause significant business disruptions downstream in another country. In this talk, we review recent research on the joint use of operational and financial measures to mitigate commodity price risks, currency exchange risk, business disruption risks. We discuss modeling frameworks, methodologies, and insights from those researches. We will also raise questions for future research.
