Challenges and Opportunities for OR/OM in the A.I. era
Abstract:
This talk shares the speaker's experience, confusion and efforts to answer the recent challenges in teaching and research arising from OR/ OM fields due to the coming A.I. era. We try to explain from our observation what happened and what is happening in real industry in China, what are business trends and research opportunities we shall pay attention to, how we shall position OR/OM in a competition with CS, Statistics and other subjects.
Biography:
Dongdong Ge is a professor in Management Science in Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. He is the dean of Research Institute for Interdisciplinary School and a vice dean of the school of Information Management and Engineering. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford MS\&E in 2009. His main research interests lie in large scale optimization theory and algorithms, and operations management. He published papers in OR and CS journals and conferences such as Mathematics of Operation Research, Mathematical Programming, FOCS, SODA, ICML, EC, and etc. He is also the chief scientist of a startup(shanshu.ai) and has been widely consulting for companies such as Boeing, Google, IBM, JD, SF-Express, Didi, NetEase, and etc.
