【内容摘要】

Massive Internet data extraction has enabled new levels of online auction research in a way that is similar to real field experimentation. The CIDRIS (Center for Internet Data and Intelligent Services) at the University of Connecticut was created and funded to allow such research. In this presentation I will overview completed research in the domain of multi-unit online auctions, and ongoing research addressing the mechanisms used by both eBay and Samsclub.com. By using a combination of analytic tools and empirical research using the rich data sets that we are able to amass, we go beyond the traditional economic studies that relate input parameters to economic outcomes of independent auctions. I will present results and ongoing research on bidder behavior classification, and economic mechanism design by better understanding the bidding dynamics within an auction and the activities of the market surrounding individual auctions. Three different auction formats are considered.
