【内容摘要】
The abundance of transaction data available online tends to make information more transparent on electronic marketplaces. In such a transparent environment, suppliers can see each other's bids (e.g. through reverse auctions) and infer their rivals' costs. Is this good news or bad news? In this study, we focus on the informational effects of Internet-based B2B exchanges, and develop a game-theoretic model to explore firms' incentives to join a B2B exchange that provides an online platform for information transmission and aggregation. The individual rationality of participation in the B2B online exchange reflects the tradeoff between information transparency and data confidentiality, which is related to data access rules in the microstructure design of B2B marketplaces.
